Making good food sustainably and ethically
Our obligation to the marketplace is to make quality-assured food that people want to buy because it’s tasty, nutritious, made with wholesome ingredients, and it meets important lifestyle needs such as convenience, indulgence and value for money.
Balanced alongside these strong commercial drivers, at Northern Foods we also take a responsible stance in promoting a sustainable and ethical supply chain and supporting our home agricultural economies by using mainly British and Irish farm-produced ingredients. We purchase large volumes of milk, free-range eggs, potatoes, and vegetables in season, as well as flour, which is almost all milled from home-grown cereals, and sugar, which is almost all refined from home-grown beet.
In response to increasing interest expressed by consumers about the content of the food we make, we are taking various product-development initiatives related to diet and health, and have responded innovatively to calls for clearer on-pack information about nutritional content.
