Environment Policy
Northern Foods actively seeks to minimise its impact on the environment through the pursuit of good business practice and by fulfilling its legal obligations.
Our strategic objective at group level is to provide a coherent framework of good environmental practice within which our businesses operate.
Group level responsibilities are:
- informing our sites of their legal obligations and anticipating new legal requirements
- understanding the requirements and expectations of our shareholders and customers and developing policies to meet these expectations
- facilitating projects to advance and spread best environmental practices within our sites, and keeping abreast of best practice externally
- setting corporate objectives for improvements in environmental performance
- monitoring progress against those corporate objectives
- reviewing our environment policy annually
Our sites' responsibilities are:
- observing all legal obligations and ensuring mechanisms are in place to assure continuing compliance
- assessing the environmental impact and environmental risks posed by our local activities
- designing and implementing environmental management systems commensurate with the identified impact and risk
- measurement of and local responsibility for the:
- efficient use of utilities and natural resources including waste minimisation
- efficient use of the management of waste
- efficient use of packaging materials and the promotion of recovery and recycling of packaging
