Helping consumers to make an informed choice about the food they buy is an important part of our Healthy Balanced Lifestyles initiative. Accordingly developing a standard approach to food labelling across our branded business is high on the agenda.
Ensuring that we support the consumer’s ability to make informed choices is the driver behind our approach to labelling.
Work is currently underway to harmonise our approach across our branded portfolio and, in the immediate term, we are focusing on standardising implementation of Guideline Daily Amounts (GDAs) across every brand. We believe that GDAs provide the detailed information required by consumers.
We are monitoring the impact of the FSA’s signposting initiative, to show the nutritional quality of foods, via front of pack ‘traffic lights’.
Clearly where we are providing own label products, we are governed by the strategies adopted by our retail customers and produce packaging accordingly.
